Books on art and architecture

In this category you will find albums of painting, sculpture and photography, artist monographs, art histories, publications on architecture and design, and guides to museums and monuments. These are both books for study and editions that adorn a shelf in the living room.

Albums are worth judging by the quality of reproductions, format and paper – large formats better convey the details of paintings and architectural photographs. Students of art history and architecture will reach for textbooks and studies of eras, and hobbyists for accessible popular books.

Publications on architecture include the history of building, presentations of contemporary projects, and books on urban planning and interiors. Before buying, check the language of the edition, the number of pages and illustrations. Albums in decorative slipcases make a good gift for art lovers. It is also worth checking whether the publication contains an index of names and a bibliography, which make further research easier.
