"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

With these more than serious words addressed to a gang of kidnappers, Bryan Mills, a former agent, begins the longest 96 hours of his life - and a hunt for the ruthless organization that abducted his daughter Kim. Bryan's parenting rules are put to the test when Kim asks for permission to travel to Paris with a friend. Knowing the dangers lurking for his daughter in a foreign country, Bryan answers with a firm "no". But Kim's disappointment gradually softens him. His worst fears come true when Kim and her friend Amanda are abducted from their Paris apartment in broad daylight shortly after arriving. Just before being taken by unknown perpetrators, Kim manages to call Bryan, who immediately starts putting together the pieces of a puzzle that will lead him into the darkness of the Paris underworld and the richest mansions of the glittering city. He lives through nightmares that surpass anything he has ever seen - but nothing and no one will stop him from saving his daughter.
