Elring 266.060 - valve cover gasket 1.9 TDI

Elring 266.060 - valve cover gasket

The Elring 266.060 gasket seals the valve cover (the upper cover of the cylinder head) in popular 1.9 TDI diesel engines of the Volkswagen Group. It prevents oil leaks at the joint between the valve cover and the cylinder head, where continuous engine operation and high temperature cause the old gasket to gradually harden and crack.

Use

The part fits 1.9 TDI engines installed in, among others, the VW Golf IV and V, Passat, Touran, Audi A3 and A4 and Skoda Octavia from approx. 1997-2013. It replaces the original Audi/Seat/Skoda/VW catalog numbers 038 103 483 D and Ford 1 100 615, as well as equivalents from other manufacturers, including Corteco 440066.7P, Victor Reinz 70-35884-00 and Goetze 50-029934-00. Because this engine was widely used across many Group models, compare the part number with the old gasket before buying.

When to replace the valve cover gasket

A characteristic symptom of a damaged gasket is an oil leak visible on the outside of the cylinder head and a smell of burning oil in the engine bay, caused by oil dripping onto hot exhaust components. The gasket is single-use - after removing the valve cover (e.g. when replacing glow plugs or injector seals) it should be replaced regardless of its visible condition.
