Garmin GC 14 – analog marine camera, wide angle, RCA connector

Garmin GC 14 – marine camera for monitoring the deck

The Garmin GC 14 is a small analog camera for observing selected areas on a yacht or boat, both above and below deck. It works well, for example, in the engine room, where lighting conditions can be poor, and as an extra pair of eyes when maneuvering in port.

Image and optics

The camera uses a CCD sensor and a fixed wide-angle lens (95 degree field of view), which lets one device cover a larger part of a room or the surroundings. The manufacturer claims a clear image even in low light, which is useful for monitoring dark, enclosed spaces such as an engine room.

Connection and display

The camera image can be displayed on an onboard TV, a video monitor or a compatible chartplotter with a video input, and with networked chartplotters the image can be sent to several screens at once. The camera has an RCA connector, and the package includes an integrated power and video cable about 114 cm (45 inches) long. The camera also has an option called mirror image, useful when backing out of tight spots, for example a crowded marina.

Construction and mounting

The small, discreet housing is weather-resistant, so the camera can be mounted both inside and outside the boat. The camera is powered by 12 V, typical for a boat installation, and is mounted with a bracket.
