Tourist and orienteering maps

In this category you will find maps useful on the trail: tourist maps of mountains and lake districts, cycling maps, road maps, city plans, topographic maps, and waterproof and laminated maps. Alongside paper maps there are also map cases and sleeves that protect the map from rain.

When choosing a map, pay attention to the scale – for hiking, scales of 1:25,000–1:50,000 work best, and for cycling or driving less detailed ones. The year of publication is important, because the course of trails and roads changes, as is the material: synthetic paper is water and tear resistant.

Even if you use navigation on your phone, a paper map will not drain the battery and lets you see the whole route at once. It is worth having it in your backpack for every longer trip. A compass, which makes orientation easier, will also come in handy.
