QUARKZMAN silicon carbide graphite crucible
A crucible made of graphite and silicon carbide, designed for melting metals in propane furnaces and other fuel-fired furnaces. It is a basic foundry accessory used for smelting gold, silver, aluminum, copper, brass or zinc.
Advantages
- Fast heat conduction shortens the time needed to heat the charge.
- Resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
- According to the manufacturer, it lasts 2-5 times longer than an ordinary clay crucible.
- Inner opening diameter 50 mm, height 80 mm.
Usage tips
Before first use, heat the empty crucible to about 500 degrees Celsius and hold that temperature for about 10 minutes. Heat it slowly, and after use store it in a dry place, because moisture shortens its life. The crucible is a consumable item and needs replacing after prolonged use. Work wearing gloves and a face shield.
Use dedicated foundry tongs to grip the hot crucible, and dry the mold or ingot mold thoroughly before casting. Never pour metal into a wet container, because steam can cause splashing.
