Sony ECM-G1 – A Small Microphone for Vloggers

Voice in front of the camera in the foreground

The ECM-G1 is a compact shotgun microphone with a supercardioid pattern. It picks up mainly sound from in front of the camera and suppresses noise from the sides and rear, so it works well for recording vlogs, travel reports and statements to camera.

Key features

• mounts on the Multi Interface shoe of a Sony camera
• powered by the camera, with no battery of its own and no cable on compatible models
• furry windscreen that reduces wind noise
• small dimensions and low weight
• signal-to-noise ratio 70 dB

A simple sound upgrade

The microphone is a good first step toward better sound in recordings from Sony ZV and Alpha series cameras. Simply mount it on the shoe and the voice will be clearer than from the built-in microphone, especially outdoors.

Its low weight keeps the rig with the microphone light even on a selfie stick or a small tripod, which people recording while traveling will appreciate.
