Compact disc movie Die Entfuhrung der U-Bahn Pelham 123 DVD.

The film is a remake of the 1970s movie ( Stop the Death Ride of the U-Bahn 123 ), which many action movie fans will remember fondly. A lost gem of B-movie cinema, starring Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw. While the original, based on John Godey's bestseller, focused on money, the remake replaces it with revenge as the motive. But before the viewer gets to the villain's true motives, many cars explode - and that is not said in a negative way. Didn't Quentin Tarantino once say, quite understandably: I would rather see an exploding car on a movie screen than a parked car? Tony Scott heard him!

The brutal gangster with a Fu-Manchu beard, Ryder (John Travolta), together with his gang has hijacked a crowded New York subway train. The demand is: 10 million dollars, payable within an hour. Otherwise, one hostage after another will be executed. As the drama unfolds in the bowels of the megacity, dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) desperately races against time to save lives. But Garber is neither a police officer nor a negotiation expert. He is an official of the New York City Transit Authority. But Ryder is adamant that he will talk only to Garber. For what reason?

Despite all the explosive set pieces, the answer to that question is the main theme of the film. Strictly speaking, Pelham 123 Subway Abduction is a chamber piece, a psychological war between two very different characters. This fact gives the film and the nervously hysterical style of its director the necessary foundation and leads to an astonishing result. Tony Scott's work, often criticized as superficial cinema, suddenly takes a breath, the areas of tension between action sequences and hostage negotiations seem balanced, and the pulsating rhythm of the montage sequences and the soundtrack meets the intensity of two superb actors - John Travolta and Denzel Washington. And more: The Taking of Pelham 123 is on an additional level, especially compared to the original, also as a description of the condition of a dynamic city and its potential for change. Originally the New York subway system was still a creaky, graffiti-covered heap of scrap, but now advanced technology, clean - aseptic - smooth, dominates. Even if the villain Ryder, in his conviction of the moral superiority of his actions, remains only a diabolical monster, a symbol of his times: open intoxication with money and power. Garber differs from him in his choices. Somehow the official manages to preserve his dignity between abundance and corruption. When he disappears into his suburban home in the film's last shot, it feels as if he were just returning home after a hard day's work. The city saved once again. ---Thomas Reuthebuch
