Garmin GTEMP10-TH - NMEA 2000 water temperature sensor
The GTEMP10-TH is a thru-hull water temperature sensor, meaning it is installed through a hole in the boat's hull so that its face is in direct contact with the water outside. As a result it measures the actual water temperature, not just the temperature inside the hull. Sensors of this type are typically used on motorboats and sailboats, where an accurate water temperature reading matters, for example when fishing or monitoring conditions during a cruise.
N2K connectivity
The sensor communicates over the NMEA 2000 (N2K) network, so the measured water temperature can be displayed on compatible Garmin chartplotters and onboard instruments connected to the same data bus.
Installation
The sensor is screwed into a previously prepared hole in the underwater part of the hull, below the waterline, so that it is in constant contact with the water while underway. This method of measurement gives a more accurate reading than sensors mounted inside the hull, because it is not affected by insulation or the air temperature in the engine compartment.
