Suunto A-30 - hiking compass with metric scale

Suunto A-30 - compass for orienteering in the field

The A-30 is a compact, precise compass from the Finnish brand Suunto, designed for navigation in the field during hikes, camping and mountain expeditions. The transparent base plate lets you read the route directly on the map, and the built-in magnifying glass makes it easier to analyze small markings.

Precision and durability

The compass is equipped with a stainless steel needle set on a jewel bearing, and the liquid-filled capsule dampens needle vibration, providing a stable direction reading even while walking. The device needs no batteries, so you can rely on it regardless of conditions and power availability.

Practical features

The 1:50000 metric scale makes it easy to measure distances directly on typical hiking maps, and the fixed declination correction scale lets you adjust the reading to local magnetic conditions. Luminous markings improve the readability of the compass in low light, for example at dusk.

Use

The model works well on mountain hikes, navigation with a paper map, orienteering runs and as reliable emergency equipment in a hiking backpack when electronic navigation fails.
