INA 532 0418 10 - serpentine belt deflection/guide pulley

The INA deflection (guide) pulley, made by Schaeffler, is part of the accessory belt drive that does not tension but only guides the serpentine belt between the pulleys of the alternator, water pump, A/C compressor and crankshaft. Correct belt routing geometry prevents the belt from coming off the grooves and wearing unevenly.

Use

The pulley is installed where the belt path needs an additional support point - most often in systems with extensive accessories, where the belt passes several pulleys at different heights. Without a working guide pulley the belt may vibrate, squeal or slip off the pulley track.

Signs of wear

• Noisy pulley bearing (growling, grinding)
• Play felt when squeezing the pulley by hand with the belt removed
• Signs of overheating or cracks on the pulley housing
• Uneven wear on the edges of the serpentine belt

Installation

Replacement requires removing the accessory belt, unscrewing the bolt securing the pulley to the engine bracket and fitting the new part with the correct tightening torque. It is recommended to check the condition of the other pulleys and the tensioner at the same time.
