VVT solenoid oil control valve

This valve controls the oil pressure directed to the variable valve timing (VVT) mechanism on the intake or exhaust side of the engine. It is an electromagnetic actuator controlled by the engine computer, which regulates the flow of oil to the phaser, enabling smooth adjustment of the camshaft position depending on engine load and speed.

Application

The part fits 2.0 and 2.4 DOHC gasoline engines installed from 2007-2015 in Stellantis (formerly Chrysler Group) models: Dodge Caliber, Avenger and Journey, Jeep Compass and Patriot, and Chrysler 200 and Sebring. It replaces original catalog numbers 4884695AB and 4884483AC. Because the same engines were installed in several models and body versions, it is worth comparing the part number with the marking on the old valve before buying.

Why replace the VVT valve

A damaged or clogged oil control valve causes improper operation of the variable valve timing mechanism, which shows up as engine error codes, a characteristic knocking from the timing drive side at startup, reduced performance and increased fuel consumption. The valve body is made of aluminum and designed to work at temperatures up to 105°C.
