The Story of G.I. Joe - War Film on Blu-ray, Collector's Edition

The Story of G.I. Joe - War Film on Blu-ray

A war film on Blu-ray in a restored collector's edition, released for the eightieth anniversary of the end of World War II and the premiere of the film. The story is based on the reports of correspondent Ernie Pyle and shows the everyday life of Company C of the 18th Infantry Regiment during the Italian campaign, one of the important episodes in which World War II was the struggle of ordinary soldiers.

Cast and direction

The film was directed by William Wellman, and the leading roles were played by Burgess Meredith and Robert Mitchum. More than one hundred and fifty real soldiers took part in the production, so the picture of war is far from the propagandistic heroism of the films of the time.

Extras

• restored trailers,
• interviews with Bill Wellman Jr.,
• a feature on the restoration process,
• commentary by Alan K. Rode,
• photo gallery and pages from the original press book.
