The Forerunner 45S is a compact 39 mm sports watch made for runners who want basic training data at hand without an excess of advanced features. The built-in GPS module lets you track pace, distance and running route, and wrist-based heart rate measurement adds physiological data, including an estimated VO2max level and the Body Battery indicator showing the body's current energy level.

Training and motivation

The watch works with the Garmin Coach function, which suggests training plans matched to a chosen goal, for example preparing for a specific running distance. Besides running, the model supports profiles for other activities, such as cycling, treadmill training or yoga, so it also works as a watch for many disciplines.

Everyday use

Paired with a smartphone, the watch displays notifications about calls and messages and lets you control music playback on the phone. The case has a confirmed water resistance to a depth of 30 meters, and the lithium-ion battery lasts about a week in watch mode and up to a dozen or so hours in GPS mode.
