Boardman-type hive entrance feeder

A feeder designed for feeding a bee colony with sugar syrup or water, mounted directly at the hive entrance. It allows constant feeding of the bees without opening the hive, which reduces disturbance to the colony during inspections.

Construction

The base of the feeder is made of beech wood, additionally protected with aluminium sheet, which increases the durability of a part exposed to moisture and changing weather at the hive entrance. The feeder is designed to work with standard glass jars with holes in the lid – the jar is not included.

How to use

Simply screw a jar of syrup into the perforated lid and slide the wooden extension into the hive entrance to give the bees a constant, controlled supply of food. It also makes it easy to monitor the remaining syrup level without disturbing the nest.

Use

The feeder is especially useful for spring and autumn feeding, when establishing new bee colonies, and during periods when there is little forage in the field.
