Garmin GMR xHD2 4' – open array radar antenna

This is an open array slotted antenna 4 feet (approx. 1.2 m) long, designed to work with Garmin GMR 424, GMR 624, GMR 1224 and GMR 2524 radar transceiver units in the xHD2 version. This antenna design provides a narrower beam and a more accurate picture of the surroundings than dome (radome) radars, which is why open array antennas are usually installed on larger vessels with enough space on the mast.

Range and beam characteristics

The antenna works with a radar with an output power of 6 kW and lets you observe the surroundings up to 72 nautical miles. The narrow horizontal beam with a width of 1.8 degrees translates into better separation of objects close to each other, for example other vessels in a harbor or in a narrow fairway.

Mast mounting

The antenna is mounted on a rotating base on a mast or a dedicated radar post and must be connected to a compatible transceiver unit from the GMR xHD2 series – the antenna itself does not generate the signal, it only emits it and receives the echo.
