The FMi 75 cable is an accessory that connects a compatible Garmin car navigation unit to an external traffic information receiver. This way the navigation device receives current traffic data and takes it into account when planning the route.

RJ45 connector and construction

The cable ends in an RJ45 connector with eight pins and a round plug shape. The cable itself is tangle-free, which makes it easier to route inside the vehicle cabin, and the black color lets you run it discreetly next to other wiring.

What the FMi cable is for

The FMi cable is used to connect Garmin devices for traffic updates – it lets you attach an external module that receives information about traffic jams and disruptions to a compatible car navigation unit. This solution was used in older Garmin navigation models, before traffic updates began to arrive through a smartphone app. When buying a replacement or an extra FMi 75 cable, check whether your navigation unit has the right socket, because not every Garmin model has one.
