Garmin GCV 20 – scanning sonar black box

The Garmin GCV 20 is a black box scanning sonar – a device without its own display that connects to a compatible chartplotter. After adding a suitable transducer from the GT34UHD series, the module provides Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and Ultra High-Definition SideVü imaging.

Range and image quality

ClearVü mode shows the structure of the bottom and fish directly beneath the boat at depths of up to 200 feet, and SideVü mode shows the surroundings on both sides of the boat, 125 feet on each side, giving a total range of up to 250 feet. The high scanning resolution makes it easy to quickly search a larger area of the fishing ground and to tell bottom structure from fish.

Connection and power

The GCV 20 communicates with the chartplotter network through an Ethernet port, so the sonar image can be displayed simultaneously on several networked chartplotters, and also shared on the network together with Panoptix sonar. The module's maximum output power is 500 W, which translates into a clear image even at greater depths.

Installation

The device is surface mounted, for example in the engine compartment or another dry place on the boat. The set includes an angled Ethernet cable, an angled power cable and a set of mounting hardware.
