Garmin GPS 73 - handheld GPS device for sailing
The GPS 73 is an easy-to-use, portable navigation device intended primarily for sailors and owners of small boats. It is operated with buttons, and its housing floats on water, which matters if it falls overboard or is lost.
Marine features and SailAssist
The device is equipped with the SailAssist system, which includes a virtual start line, a steering line, a timer counting down to the start of a regatta and a tack assistant. In addition, the GPS 73 calculates sunrise and sunset data and the estimated time of arrival at the destination, and provides typical marine functions such as a man overboard (MOB) alarm, off-course alarms and an anchor drag alarm.
Navigation and use
Thanks to the high sensitivity of the GPS receiver, the device lets you mark and save waypoints and routes, and then return to the saved places. The GPS 73 works as navigation on sailboats and small yachts without their own chartplotter, and as a backup navigation device in case the main equipment fails on a larger boat.
