Garmin inReach Messenger – satellite communicator, SOS alert, IPX7

Garmin inReach Messenger – compact satellite communicator

The inReach Messenger is a small device for two-way text communication outside cellular coverage, using the Iridium satellite network. It lets you send and receive messages where an ordinary phone loses signal, for example in the mountains or on the water.

Connectivity and messages

The device connects to the Iridium satellite network, and also supports messaging over the cellular network when available. Pairing with a smartphone is done via Bluetooth, which makes it easier to write longer messages on the phone screen.

Safety

In an emergency you can send an interactive SOS alert, which goes to the 24/7 Garmin IERCC emergency response coordination center.

Durability and battery

The housing has an IPX7 water and dust resistance rating. On a single charge the battery lasts up to 28 days in tracking mode with a 10-minute position logging interval. The device can also charge a phone in an emergency when connected with a cable.

Weight and technical data

The communicator itself weighs less than 114 grams, and charging is done via a USB-C connector.
